What is Linkbait?
Linkbait is a term used to describe interesting content written for the purpose of attracting an audience. Some forms of linkbait can be industry-specific articles, press releases, videos, useful tools, to name a few.
A good SEO campaign will submit your linkbait to social networks frequented by your target audience. Since social networks and search engines alike want to provide interesting content to their users, everyone stands to gain.
The key to building a loyal following is to keep providing useful content. Eventually, others will link to you and tell others about you, which translates into more traffic to your site.
Recently, some SEO authorities have pointed out that linkbait causes spikes of traffic to your website which can cause Google to devalue your website. Terri Wells does a wonderful job in explaining why this theory is implausible and unlikely in his article “Is Linkbait Good or Bad?” . Ultimately, if your content is on topic, relevant to your industry, and useful, you are giving people and search engines exactly what they want!
